I am a proud owner of a Kindle Fire but I still want an iPad. I was very close to purchasing the iPad2 during the holidays but after hearing multiple news the iPad3 was going to be released early 2012 (Feb 24th?), I decided to hold back.
That being said, there are some expectations that I have for the 3rd generation iPad. Here are my top 5 must haves for the iPad3:
Retina Display
When I first saw the resolution on the iPhone4 I was blown away! A week later I bought one. How could Apple show us their HD display on an iPhone4 and NOT on an iPad? The iPad2 carried the same display resolution from the first iPad. Retina Display is on top of my list because it just enhances the user experience.
4G Network
Apple does not have 4G access on any of their products which I find strange. If iPad3 comes with 4G, that would be a huge improvement and again a major plus on the UX. A faster connection is also great for those who work with an iPad. Faster broadband equals high productivity. Whether it’s Long Term Evolution, WiMax, or the fastest variant of HSPA+, Apple needs to get the fastest wireless networks available.
Media Ports & Card Slots
As soon as tablet manufacturing companies found out that the iPad did not even have a USB port, almost all of them add media ports powered by Android or another OS in hopes that these features would be enough to compete with the all mighty iPad. We all know that didn’t really work. I like Android but the reason why people choose iOS is because they really keep the user in mind. The media ports are great but in the end, the functionality of the Android or any other OS is just not as simplified as the iOS. It doesn’t matter how pretty you make your screens or how cool your animated wallpaper is, its all about whether or not my 65-year-old mom or 8-year-old kid could use it. That being said, if iPad3 adds a USB 2.0, ThunderBolt, Micro SD Card slot and an HDMI port, there will be no reason not to buy an iPad over all it’s competitors.
Better Camera
There is a bit of a debate whether iPad should have a high quality camera. The issue is that cameras did well with smartphones because they were just as portable as a snap and shoot camera. Amazing how a camera app with a smart phone is going to virtually replace the snap and shoot market. Smartphones are going as high or higher than 10 Mega Pixels! The iPad or any other tablet around the same size does not resemble a camera and it’s not as portable. In addition, have you seen anyone taking pictures with an iPad? It looks pretty funny. So why do I want the better camera? Just because! Why not? The iPad3 should be the best of the best! Currently, it’s camera is not the best and most tablets are carrying around 3 to 5 Mega Pixels. Go with
Wider Screen
The iPad2 currently measures at 9.7-inches (diagnal). A decent size but why not go a little bigger. The current trend on smartphones is the big screen like the Nexus. Tablets I’m sure will follow suit. With a Retina Display on a larger screen imagine viewing photos or reading ezines…. movies! THAT will provide the ultimate experience. Why not add Beats By Dre’ speakers while you’re at it Apple!
